Splendid Cycle Routes

If you’re a keen cyclist you may already have your tried and tested routes for training. If you’re a novice then here are a few splendid cycle routes for you to try:

Richmond Park : Tamsin Trail

7.35 miles  This is a track that runs around the entire border of Richmond Park. It’s shared with walkers so keep your eyes peeled. A great way to experience gentle mountain biking with a couple of short steep hills thrown in for good measure. Be sure to look out for those deer!
Richmond Park : Road (7 miles)

There are several routes through and around Richmond Park. You will also be sharing the tarmac with cars so be aware. There are some good sharp climbs as well as some long gradual inclines.

South Downs Way

100 miles Having completed this off-road route from Winchester to Eastbourne I felt a great deal of satisfaction as well as exhaustion (mainly down to the strong headwind!) Cycling along the ridge of the South Downs in turn gives you spectacular views. Some of the more adventurous among us have completed this in a day. I went for a more relaxed approach and spread it out over 3 days stopping in B&B's along the way. If you haven't cycled much before, make sure you build up to a ride like this. If you're heading out on a long ride it's a good idea to carry essentials with you such as; water, snacks, a puncture repair kit and a mobile phone. Always tell someone where you going or better still, rope someone into going along for the ride!
