In 3 weeks time on the 16th September, Velindre Fundraising President and BBC Sports pundit Jonathan Davies, along with former Wales rugby captains Mike Hall and Cardiff Blues and Wales star Martyn Williams will be leading a group of 50 intrepid riders across the state of California to raise over £100k for Velindre Cancer Care.
Ultimate Challenges Expedition Bike Leader, Lisa Russell says ‘This is my third time leading the ride in California. It’s a fantastic ride. We start in the monumental Yosemite National Park. From here we cycle 390km in 5 days, over challenging mountain roads, down into farmed valleys and onto the plains. We camp along lakeshores, pass through classic Western towns and continue onto the edge of Californian wine country.
The last two days are amazing as we ride along the Pacific Coast road, allowing us time to stop along the way to visit golden sandy beaches and laid-back towns, before we have our breathtaking finish over the iconic Golden Gate Bridge and into one of the coolest cities on earth, for a night of partying Californian style!’ If you want to find out how the Captains and their crew fare on the ride, watch this space as Lisa is planning to blog about the ride whilst en-route!
