This superb trek passes through the Kingdom of Gaddi, a semi nomadic race who spend many months wandering the high pastures with their sheep. We have splendid views of the Daula Dhar mountain Range while trekking through the mountain villages with terraced fields, dense mixed forests of oak, rhododendron, pine and bamboo, which offers some of the best camping spots in the world.
We also have the chance to visit the H.H. Dalai Lama’s monastery and residence in Dharamsala. The hill station was established by the British between 1815 and 1847, but remained a minor town until H.H. Dalai Lama settled here after the Chinese invasion of Tibet in October 1959. There is an obvious Tibetan influence in McLeod Ganj, with monasteries, Tibetan restaurants and Tibetan and Himachalie shops.
Best time of year: January to March, and November to December
Grade: Moderate
