Alex qualified as a doctor in 1994 from Bart’s in London. He spent time working in anaesthetics and intensive care as well as emergency medicine before becoming a full time GP.
Alex started rock climbing and mountaineering aged 15 though is not quite as brave these days. He started sailing at school and enjoys offshore skippering along with slightly more relaxing times sailing in the Med. He now puts these skills to good use on the Torbay lifeboat where he helms the inshore lifeboat and works as a navigator on the all weather lifeboat.
Alex has an interest in communications, group dynamics and psychology, Search and Rescue, high altitude medicine and exercise physiology. Alex teaches on Expedition and Wilderness Medicine courses and has also just become a GP appraiser.
He has travelled in Europe, Iceland, America, South East Asia and Africa. Alex loves off piste skiing and tries to spend as much time as possible in the Alps over the winter though work tends to get in the way. He loves going uphill on skis as much as downhill and feels this is a sign of maturity!
Alex has been an Expedition medic on many of our Mount Kilimanjaro, Peru and Patagonia treks.
