abf-soldiers-charity

We are The Soldiers’ Charity. We’re here to support the men and women who put everything on the line to defend us, and our country.

We’re here for them with lifetime support whether they are serving soldiers or veterans.

We offer our hand to them as individuals and, when they need help, for their families. We stand by them in conflict and in peacetime, throughout their lives.

The immediate help we offer is a lifeline. But we look to the future too, keeping ahead of the game, finding the best ways to give medical, technical and financial support to give the best possible outlook for the men and women who sacrifice so much for us.

The National Autistic Society is the UK's leading charity for people affected by Autism. Over half a million people in the UK have autism. Together with their families they make up over two million people whose lives are touched by autism every single day.

Despite this, autism is still relatively unknown and misunderstood. Which means that many of these two million people get nothing like the level of help, support and understanding they need. Together, we are going to change this.

What better way to challenge yourself both mentally and physically than by doing a National Autistic Society trek? It's a great way to meet new people and explore amazing places you'd never even dreamt you'd go to. What's more, the feeling of achieving the ultimate lifetime challenge is something you'll talk about for years to come. By supporting the NAS, you'll also be helping us continue our work, ensuring that people with autism fulfill their potential.

Most of our challenge events are dedicated to one charity, but we also offer Open Challenges. These are usually promoted by us and charity partners, meaning all those who take part are raising money for different charities.

There are a couple of ways in which charities can get involved with overseas challenge events; either by organising your own bespoke event or by promoting our open challenges to your supporters.

Below is a little bit of information about each that should help you decide which is the most appropriate type of event for your charity.

Bespoke Challenges

Bespoke Challenges are fundraising events that are exclusive to one charity. We can run bespoke challenges for small and large groups. We recommended you aim to get a minimum of 10 people.

We are able to organise bespoke trips to destinations all over the world – have a look at our ‘itineraries’ section to see what we have on offer. We can also tailor trips specifically to your charity. If there is a country or area that you would like to arrange a trip to then please just let us know and we can develop an itinerary especially for you. Or do you have a project that you would like to visit at the end of your trip – we can arrange this too.

Open Challenges

Open Challenges are fundraising events that are promoted by a number of charities and the people who take part can raise money for any charity that they would like. We offer a small number of Open Challenges each year.

An advantage of promoting one of our Open Challenges is that there is no financial commitment from the charity for things such as flight deposits etc. It is up to you what you promote and how you promote it.

Whichever type of challenge you decide to promote we are here to support you every step of the way. With our wealth of knowledge of the charity and travel sectors we will do all that we can to make your trip a huge success.

If you chose to organise a bespoke event there are 7 easy steps to follow to create your own bespoke overseas event:

  1. Browse our challenge itineraries - Would trekking, cycling, multi-activity or horse riding be the most appealing to your supporters? Long haul or short haul? Moderate, tough or very tough
  2. Get in touch, we've years of experience in both fundraising and challenge operating and we're here to help Face to face or over the phone, we'll take you through the options and get you off the ground
  3. Set your registration fee and minimum sponsorship amounts
  4. Market your event to all your supporters - old and new
  5. Hold an information day for your participants where they can learn more about your event and ask any questions they may have - we can be there too
  6. Provide a final list of participants to us 10 weeks prior to the trip
  7. Wave your participants off on the trip of a lifetime

Here are just a few of the ways that we support our charity partners;

  • We will consult with you every step of the way and provide detailed itineraries and event information, plus fantastic photos to help you promote your challenge
  • We can offer advice on your marketing and promotional plans
  • We will promote your charity and event with a full page on this website, and feature you in our upcoming event calendar which allows participants to search for events that suit them, then contact you directly for further information
  • This website is also a valuable resource for you and your participants with recommended reading, answers to FAQS, training advise, final reminders and links to further information
  • We can suggest effective ways of supporting your participants through the fundraising and training process
  • We will attend and speak at briefing days
  • We can organise flight extensions and holiday arrangements for people wishing to stay-on after their challenge
  • On the event our tour leaders will brief, encourage, motivate and support every participant and ensure the event runs smoothly, adding value to their once in a lifetime experience and your success

Before this she previously worked in the City and was fortunate enough to make the career change when she discovered the mountains!

Most of Michele’s spare time is spent exploring a mountain range somewhere in the world, but she’s currently trying to settle down in Vancouver, Canada.

Chris has been working in the business for over 15 years including leading challenges in the Himalaya, Europe, Africa (Mount Kilimanjaro 10+), North, South & Central America and Asia.

He now lives in the US and is a member of the Washington State Mountaineers where he leads treks and volunteers as a instructor in the "mini-Himalayas" of the Cascade and Olympic Mountains.

His speciality for many years now has been in high altitude work but he's still picking up new tricks - at the moment he's training to become a Mountain First Aid Instructor.  Even after all these years Chris still proves to be one of the most enthusiastic leaders, he's just a little greyer than he used to be!
